Grants

The IEC Foundation awards grants to improve education, facilities, and programs contributing to the electrical industry workforce.

The Home Depot Pro Xtra Grant

Through the Pro Xtra Program, enrolled IEC members receive 2% cash back on their purchases, and The Home Depot then donates 0.5% of those sales to IECF.

The IEC Foundation uses those funds toward scholarships, apprentice education, chapter development, facility improvements, and other programs.

Scholarships and Funds

The IEC Foundation provides scholarships and disaster relief funds to support students, organizations, and individuals in the electrical industry.

Scholarship Fund

The IEC Foundation established the scholarship fund exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to award deserving, qualified students who have demonstrated drive, dedication, and leadership in their pursuit of careers in the electrical industry.

The Foundation Scholarship Fund is offered to Independent Electrical Contractors students, members, and their immediate families, who plan to pursue post-secondary education in college or state-accredited apprenticeship programs.

Disaster Relief Fund

Program Mission:

The IEC Foundation Disaster Relief Fund provides timely and supportive assistance to IEC members, apprentices, chapters, staff, and their families in times of need and crisis from natural disasters and devastating events.

Our mission is to address immediate needs and short-term burdens, and to alleviate distress for those affected by disasters, while fostering resilience to enable them to focus on response, recovery, and maintaining organizational continuity.

Program Purpose:

Disaster relief aims to help individuals and families in crisis while also supporting local chapters and members to maintain operations within the communities they serve. While often associated with large-scale disasters that impact entire regions, disaster relief efforts also extend to tragedies that are not widespread but still have significant impacts on the affected individuals or communities.

Award Criteria:

IEC Foundation Disaster Relief Grants provide essential support for expenses not covered by insurance policies or other donations. The focus of IECF Disaster Relief is on providing support for immediate disaster-related needs, including community resources, essential supplies, and shelter.

Award Exclusions:

Medical expenses and funeral expenses are strictly prohibited from Disaster Relief Awards. Applications for Disaster Relief are awarded at the sole discretion of the current reviewers. Present need, current available funds, and specific circumstances of each application are considered during the review and award process. Each application decision is granted on an individual basis.

Application Process:

Disaster Relief Fund applications may only be submitted through the direct referral of an IEC chapter in good standing. The chapter must request the link, which must be submitted to apply for funds. All applications will be approved or denied within 30 days of submission. All committee award decisions are final.

Community Service

The IEC Foundation is committed to being visible and impactful in our local communities. We are proud to host an annual service project at SPARK, where we convene to support local causes.

2025

The Gene Mini Community Service Project:
Packaging Food for the Hungry

The IEC Foundation proudly kicked off this year’s IEC SPARK with a day of service at The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Our board members, chapter leaders, partners, and volunteers joined forces to pack food and prepare meals for the local community. A heartfelt thank you to K2 Electric for their generous donations and support in making this service event a success!

Together, we can make a lasting impact. By supporting the Gene Mini Community Service Project, you’re helping the IEC Foundation fight hunger and deliver hope to families in need. Join us in making a difference - please donate to help us reach our goal of $10,000 for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

2024

Zoey’s Hands of Hope

In recent years, the IEC Foundation has been intentional about supporting local communities by initiating a service project during the annual SPARK event. For 2024, a number of circumstances collided to make its project clear — to take action and do its part to help the fight against child sex trafficking.

2023

Guardian Angels Medical Service Dog to a Veteran

For SPARK 2023, the Foundation teamed with the Guardian Angels organization. Through their incredible dogs, they make a difference in the lives of those struggling with a variety of service-related issues including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, mobility issues, and more. Guardian Angels Chief Administrative Office Sylee Gibson attended SPARK to tell the organization’s story.

Toys for Tots

The IEC Foundation is proud to announce these grants were written for a holiday toy distribution from our IEC chapters and the communities they serve. This is a part of the huge push to continue to be visible in our communities. Chapters, through this distribution, are making connections with prospective students and being noticed by potential members because of the help they are providing to those in need.

Thank you for supporting your community!

Powering the Future

Through hands-on learning, classroom STEM kits, and real-time interaction with IEC industry professionals, students explore the power and potential of careers in the electrical industry while developing foundational skills in science and engineering.

The IEC Foundation National Student Challenge Program

The Powering the Future Student Challenge, presented by the IEC Foundation in partnership with Generac, is an exciting program aimed at sparking interest in electrical careers, skilled trades, and STEM education.

Generac Foundation

This nationwide challenge engages students with our IEC Chapters through two age-based segments:

K-8 Segment:

Features interactive activities focused on essential electrical concepts, energy conservation, and real-world problem-solving.

9-12 Segment:

Invites high school students to create energy-based solutions or address electrical safety challenges through technical projects.

The IEC Foundation Toolkit Award Program

The Toolkit Award Program — a part of the Powering the Future initiative presented by the IEC Foundation in partnership with Generac — aims to empower aspiring electricians by providing them with the essential tools for success.

IEC apprentices who demonstrate strong academic performance and consistent attendance after their first semester are eligible to receive professional-grade toolkits. By reducing financial barriers, the program ensures that students are equipped with the essentials they need to confidently start their careers in the electrical field.
